For Cosmopolis Toronto, Canadian photographer Colin Boyd Shafer chronicles the diversity of the modern metropolis by creating portraits of immigrant individuals hailing from each country around the globe. With each frame, he captures his subject in a location where they have found a sense of belonging and familiarity.
Writes Shafer in his Artist Statement, “Through photographing over 190 individuals in a spot where they feel most comfortable, I discovered that the answers to what makes this diverse city home are as complicated as we are. The places where individuals in the city find comfort – find home – are clear statements of our diversity. From a living room to a subway car, each location is distinct, revealing unique lived realities and personal histories.”
