Argentine American photographer Elisa Ferrari’s work explores the themes of environmentalism and cultural diversity. For her project The Sami Way, she photographs the indigenous peoples of Northern Scandinavia and their relationship with the land and its wildlife.
Writes Ferrari in her Artist Statement, “This region, known as Sapmi, covers the Arctic area of Sweden, Norway, Finland, and the Kola Peninsula of Russia and is inhabited by the Sami, whose ancestral lifestyle is integrally related to the seasonal migration of reindeer. The Samis unique cultural experience has yielded a profound connection and understanding of nature that continues to be passed down from generation to generation.”
Each week, Feature Shoot editors showcase the work of one photographer who has applied to the Emerging Photography Awards in order to highlight the diverse array of applications we receive. This is not an endorsement of the photographer for the award.
