As Creative Director at United Photo Industries, Sam Barzilay continues to show work that pushes the boundaries of contemporary photography to new and exciting heights. In 2012, Barzilay cofounded Photoville, an annual photography festival composed of over 50 gallery spaces made from readapted shipping containers installed. Located at the Brooklyn Bridge Park, Photoville brings together a wide variety of artists, curators, and editors working in various genres around the world.
Before his position at United Photo Industries, Barzilay served as Director at the New York Photo Festival, bringing to life the visions of leading photographers and curators, including Martin Parr, Elizabeth Biondi, Kathy Ryan, and Chris Boot. Having judged and reviewed such awards as the New York Photo Awards, the Prix Pictet, Les Rencontres d’Arles, the Google Photography Prize, Houston FotoFest, and Artists Wanted, Barzilay has a sharp eye for innovative and cutting-edge work that is currently changing and expanding the medium.
