Italian photographer Valerio Bellone documents the families vacationing in small rented houses along the Mondello beach in Palermo. Watching from a distance, he captures the intimate, tender moments that unfold during evening meals outdoors.
Writes Bellone in his Artist Statement, “Inside the courtyards, the Palermo families dine, play and tell stories in the darkness broken by small lights hanging from to the umbrellas.
The marine smell and the one of pine are strong, as well as the sound of the wind and sea that [have been] the main soundtrack of this outside "summer theater" [for] seventy years.
