Photographer Kate Allen’s colorful still lifes are composed of objects significant to her own personal history. Her series “Recollections” is at once an examination of unanswered questions from her past and a collection of obscure, ambiguous imagery that remains open to subjective interpretations.
Writes Allen in her Artist Statement, “By constructing still life imagery, I explore unresolved issues, which offer subtle suggestion of an experiential narrative. All backgrounds and objects included in each image represent something specific in a given experience. These images reference people, places, and events from my past, but the translation of individual images are intentionally vague. This vagueness allows each individual to bring his or her personal experiences to the viewing process.”

Each week, Feature Shoot editors showcase the work of one photographer who has applied to the Emerging Photography Awards in order to highlight the diverse array of applications we receive. This is not an endorsement of the photographer for the award.
