For People in Their Homes, Fairlawn, Ohio-based photographer McKenzie Beynon captures dozens of nearby residents, most of whom are strangers, within the intimate confines of their houses and apartments. Here, she constructs a story of each individual based on the items with which they choose to surround themselves.
Writes Beynon in her Artist Statement, “I have found that a person’s living space and the possessions that fill it are not only important but help describe them as an individual. Through this series, I explore the relationships between people, their homes, and the objects occupying their spaces. My goal is for the viewer to see personality through their portrait, as well as the connection between the person and the space they live in.”

Each week, Feature Shoot editors showcase the work of one photographer who has applied to the Emerging Photography Awards in order to highlight the diverse array of applications we receive. This is not an endorsement of the photographer for the award.
