Emerging Photography Contender: Britt Marie Bye

For Memories of the past, Norwegian photographer Britt Marie Bye reaches across the generations to touch on enigmatical facets of her own family history, constructing in the process an elusive yet unwavering sense of self.

Writes Bye in her Artist Statement, “I tend to always include something personal in my photography, whether it be my old teddy-bear, my grandmother's dress, my mother's nightgown or a family heirloom. To me it adds another layer to my photographs and it gives me an extra challenge as a photographer. It's not just a photograph, not just a random story. It's something personal.”
