EMERGING PHOTOGRAPHY CONTENDER: STEFANIE ZINGSHEIM

German photographer Stefanie Zingsheim worked as a a production designer in the film industry before moving to Australia to study photography at Ultimo Tafe. Since relocating, the artist has been working on a personal project entitled Australian Travelling Circus; she has spent time with three different circus families and captured their day-to-day lives.

Stefanie writes in her artist’s statement: “My goal for this project is to document modern Australian circus culture and present this journey as a singular body of work by means of a public exhibition and a published book of prints. Artistically the work will look at the mystique and humanity of this lifestyle/profession, exploring the performers' relationship with their work, the audience and each other”.
