German-based photographer Frank Machalowski uses multiple exposure and other analog techniques to create a universe that runs parallel to but ultimately departs from our own, existing in the ambiguous realm between real life and make-believe.
Writes Machalowski in his Artist Statement, “Is it fiction or reality, is it a warm rain forest or a cold german mixed forest. Do these animals real live in this forest or is it a giant zoo. Maybe is it a look into a future world without humans? I think these photos gives no answers to this questions, and they should not. Rather, they should just raise these questions and may even allow the viewer room for more questions unanswered.”

Each week, Feature Shoot editors showcase the work of one photographer who has applied to the Emerging Photography Awards in order to highlight the diverse array of applications we receive. This is not an endorsement of the photographer for the award.
Apply to the Feature Shoot 2015 Emerging Photography Awards here. It pays to apply early, as we will be featuring some of our favorite submissions right here and over our social media channels.
