How do I know if I'm an emerging photographer?
All entrants must be 21 or over; otherwise it doesn't matter how long you've been shooting or how old you are. As long as you're not represented commercially by an agent and your fine art work is not represented by a gallery we will consider you for this contest.
I'm having a problem uploading my images.
Please check to make sure your images are sized correctly at 760 pixels on the shortest side. If you still are having problems submitting, please email us at featureshootinfo (at) gmail (dot com).
What type of work is eligible?
All photo-based work is eligible be it film, digital, tintype, camera-less, etc.
How many photos may I submit?
Up to 5 photos will be accepted.
Can I submit multiple projects?
Yes, you can submit as many projects as you like, but you should submit each project separately. You may submit up to 5 photos for each project.
Can you tell me if the up to 5 images submitted need to be all part of a related series, or can they be 5 different images?
They can be part of a related series or 5 different images. However, we would advise against sending unconnected singles ( ex: editorial portrait, a fine art still life, a monkey at the zoo, a mountain landscape).
Can two photographers submit as one entry?
Yes, if you are working as a team, please make sure to note this in your bio.
Is there a fee to enter?
Yes, there is a $35 fee to enter up to 5 images.
The judging is different this year. How does it work?
The main difference between this year and years prior is that instead of everyone casting their vote and having the photographers with the most votes win, we are allowing each judge to choose their own winners. For example, if the judge is giving away 3 camera bags, then they can choose 3 winners from the pool of submissions to give those bags to. We think this is an exciting way to recognize more photographers and also a way for judges to choose and award photographers whose work directly appeals to them.
What if my work is chosen by multiple judges?
It is totally possible for photographers to win multiple times.
Do I have to have a website to apply?
No, you do not need a website to apply, but it is helpful. This is a contest for emerging photographers, so the quality of your work will be judged on the images you submit, not your web presence.
Do I have to provide a bio and statement?
Yes, only applicants who fill out the entire entry form will be considered. Please note that the word count for the bio and statement cannot exceed 250 words.
When is the exhibition of winning work?
The dates and durations of exhibitions are still to be determined, but all 3 will take place in 2017.
Where will the exhibition take place?
Group exhibitions will take place at United Photo Industries in Dumbo, Brooklyn; as part of the Head On Festival in Sydney, Australia, and in New York City (outside exhibition) courtesy of ArtBridge.
How will the work be printed and displayed?
Feature Shoot will be responsible for all costs relating to printing, installing and overall display of the work at the venues.
